A boost in the fight against misinformation. Lakmusz takes part in the development of a multilingual chatbot using generative artificial intelligence to offer fact-checked information to users. The European Media Information Fund (EMIF) selected the project alongside seven other projects in the sixth round of funding for verification activities.

Lakmusz will work with other fact-checking organizations led by Newtral to create a generative AI-powered multilingual chatbot designed to provide verified information to users worldwide. Conceived as a “ChatGPT of facts,” this virtual assistant is dedicated to combating misinformation and ensuring the accuracy of information accessible to any user.

Unlike conventional chatbots that typically offer guided responses and predefined options, Newtral’s project aims to provide users with a conversational experience akin to having a personal fact-checking assistant within their chat interface.

Lakmusz will take part in the development of curated data for the technological aspects of the project along with European fact-checking organizations such as Newtral in Spain, Delfi in Lithuania, Lakmusz in Hungary, and Oštro in Slovenia, with additional support from Faktoje in Albania.

The effectiveness of the chatbot lies in its database, which contains verified and cross-checked information in multiple languages. This repository is designed to equip users with accurate and reliable answers to their queries, regardless of linguistic diversity.

The funding awarded for this project marks a significant step in the battle against misinformation, strengthening the efforts of the fact-checking community to ensure that truth prevails in the global media landscape.
